Art of Construction:
Paintings of the New I-35W Bridge Project
It's not every day that a bridge is built over the Mississippi River. And this one triggered a lot of conflicting emotions. The senseless tragedy that necessitated it is now a part of this city's identity — and so, too, was the bridge's rebuilding. It's amazing what people can achieve with team work, commitment, and resources. Anyone visiting the construction site last summer was enthralled with the scene. Viewing it as a painter, I saw angles, atmosphere, perspective, color, and scale — all begging to be painted.
The full series of original paintings were on display August 1–29 at the Art Gallery in the Trivent Financial building, just a few blocks from the bridge site. Click on the images below for a larger view and availability.
